Recommended CSS / XHTML Editing Tools

As everyone delves into CSS, I’d like to suggest some software that helps. Aside from VI in Terminal and Notepad, CSSEdit helps make it easier to develop CSS: http://macrabbit.com/cssedit/ (I fell in love with this after converting to Mac)

On PC, I recommend TopStyle: http://www.newsgator.com/Individuals/TopStyle/Default.aspx

As far as editing HTML, BBEdit is my dream-software: http://www.barebones.com/products/bbedit/

Dreamweaver is too hefty, and has a ton of extra stuff you usually don’t need. Try opening Dreamweaver, Photoshop & Parallels (for IE) at the same time with 2GB RAM—not so great.

And of course, Firebug (Firefox) is ESSENTIAL. CSSEdit has a tool like Firebug, but you can’t edit HTML in real-time as you can in Firebug: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/1843

( another helpful extension (Firefox) is the Web Developer Toolbar: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/60 )

Finally, you’ll find more use from this tool than you think for IE debugging (PC), the IE Developer Toolbar: http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?familyid=e59c3964-672d-4511-bb3e-2d5e1db91038&displaylang=en
